Vista have an option call Compatibility Mode. Click Start > All Programs > right click the name of the program (Sims 2) > Properties. When the Properties dialog box appears, click the Compatibility tab. Click the "Run this program contained by compatibility mode for:" check box. A check mark should appear. Click the down arrow, next click the operating system for which Sims 2 was originally designed. Click OK.

Try looking for a team game patch for vista. Game support on vista is mixed up so it may be a while before antediluvian games are fully supported.
