CD/DVD ROM had it!?

I hold a dell inspiron 1150. Last night my cd\dvd rom quit on me. It will deed like it desires to start but then it lately stops. I tried to play it in musicmatch and window media and it say there's not a cd in nearby! Help!

Answer:

try this. put in a cd. and re-boot the laptop with the cd inside. when window loads and try the cd. if the cd works this time then theres a problem next to your "Auto Run" option for your cd.

if this doesnt work consequently theres a software or hardware problem. either the cable have come loose, or the cdrom is faulty, and have died. software: could be that your driver for the CD rom is gone some how, (happens when you install conflicting tentative software). so install a newer driver

you probably got a driver cd beside your pc, so pop that surrounded by and re install the CD ROM.

hope this help
So, there are a few things worth checking. Is the IDE cable you are using an 80 lead UDMA cable? If so, change it for a standard 40 chain IDE cable CD & DVD writers sometimes don't similar to working on 80 wire cable especially if the databus line drivers are marginal, if you own an obliging friend, find both burners checked out on a different machine. You may find that coincidence to the contrary, both drives are out of order.

You didn't say what OS or burning software you use, but if adjectives else fails, it might be worth doing a repair install of window, but I can't see that that would be the problem really.
